25% of organizations worldwide have fallen victim to a ransomware attack
These successful ransomware attacks started with phishing via malicious emails in 59% of cases. This is apparent from research by Hornetsecurity. In most cases, affected organizations can recover their data from internal backups. However, the data breach remains. 14% of victims lost their data permanently due to lack of proper backups and 7% ended up paying a ransom to recover the stolen data. It only takes one employee to click on a wrong link.

Majority of companies do not report cybercrime
More than half of the employees who are confronted with cybercrime do not report it. It is important to report this, this increases the awareness of an organization. Reasons not to file a report are that people think it is useless, that it takes too much effort and that it is not considered important. The above is evident from the Alert Online 2022 Business sector sub-report.

A quarter of companies do not take action for digital security
Large companies take actions significantly more often than average for online safe behavior. Small businesses (up to 10 employees) take the least action. A quarter of small businesses are not even taking any action to promote safe online behavior. It’s no surprise, then, that small businesses have recently been targeted by cybercrime. The above is evident from the Alert Online 2022 Business sector sub-report.
